When choosing the right waxing studio, looking for licensed estheticians trained in the latest techniques and practices is crucial. This ensures that you're in safe hands and receiving the best possible service.

Here are our top tips for finding the right waxing studio!

How to Choose the Right Waxing Studio -

Narrowing Down Salons:

  • All salons should be licensed by the state, and all employees should hold their own professional state licenses.

  • While cosmetologists can perform waxing, we think it is important to partner with an esthetician. Cosmetologists do not receive the same level of skin care training as estheticians.

  • If you visit a salon that allows cosmetologists to wax, ensure there is an esthetician on staff who can answer skin-related questions the cosmetologists may not be able to.

  • Check to see if the salon offers waxing-related skin care services and carries in-house aftercare products. These will be essential for your long-term waxing success.

  • If the salon offers multiple services, check to see if their wax room is private and secure.

  • A great studio asks questions, usually at the beginning of the appointment while filling out client forms. It is good practice for a studio to have this client information, as it allows the esthetician to learn more about you and your skin before the service even begins!

Quality Products, Techniques, & Client Education:

  • The products and techniques used during your waxing session can make all the difference in the results. Look for a studio with high-quality wax and gentle methods to minimize discomfort and irritation.

  • We highly recommend finding a salon specializing in and only using hard wax techniques. Unlike its cousin, soft wax, hard wax provides a comfortable experience.

  • PRO TIP: Ask to see how long the salon's employees have been with them to ensure you are being seen by a seasoned wax expert. Even if you can not get in with their most senior esthetician, it is good to know someone is there who can help if needed.

  • A studio should consider the client's comfort and safety. (Although it is wax, we cannot eliminate all the pain that might occur.) A good esthetician will try to ensure you are as comfortable as possible during your service.

  • Client education on what the service entails and what to expect post-wax should also be included. The right studio wants you to go home knowing all you can about caring for your freshly waxed skin and what to expect if it is your first wax.

Hygiene and Cleanliness:

  • Cleanliness is non-negotiable when it comes to waxing. Ensure the studio adheres to strict hygiene standards and uses clean and sanitized equipment for each client.

  • Cleanliness should be a top priority wherever you decide to go for your services. At BARE Body Waxing Studio, we follow rigorous sanitation protocols to ensure every client has a safe and hygienic environment.

  • Gloves are worn during every service and changed regularly when doing full-body services.

  • Double Dipping (going from the wax pot to the client's skin and back into the wax pot) a wax stick is an Esthetician crime and directly violates our personal company standards.

  • Wax tables should always be covered with a layer of medical-grade bed paper to prevent cross-contamination of possible bodily fluids, and all tables must be cleaned with a hospital-grade disinfectant after each use. Even if a client is fully clothed during a service, universal precautions should always be followed.

  • Tools (tweezers, scissors, etc.) should always be placed in a sanitizing jar with blue barbicide somewhere in the treatment room, visible for clients to see, and easy for the esthetician to reach.

  • It is also important for the esthetician to have some Neosporin and hydrocortisone cream on hand in case of a slight skin mishap.

Client Reviews and Communication:

  • Read reviews and testimonials from other clients to get a sense of their experiences with the studio. Google is usually the best place for this.

  • A studio or salon should take pride in what its clients say about it. Another great thing to look for is honesty. How do these reviews read, and how does the studio respond to them, if at all?

  • A good studio has a well-constructed client communication system. This includes easy access to appointment information with reminders and clear points of contact (phone number, email, messaging, etc).

  • In our professional opinion, a studio should also have a well-designed website for clients who would like more education and a social media platform for relatability, education, fun, and showcasing promotions.

Bonus Pro Tip!

We want to leave you with one more very important piece of advice.

This is a quick way to get as much information as possible when calling wax salons so you can decide who you want to wax with.

Use the following questions as a guide. Make sure whoever answers these questions is happy to provide additional information that aligns with the topics we discussed.

If they are not happy to answer your questions or do not have adequate information to provide you with, you should automatically eliminate them from your list!

These are the essential questions to ask when calling a studio before you book a wax...

  1. How do you prep the skin before a wax?

  2. Do you double-dip sticks or reuse sticks?

  3. Do you wear gloves?

  4. What treatments do you offer for ingrown hairs?

  5. How do you clean your tools?

  6. Do you follow universal precautions for sanitation procedures?

  7. Do you have licensed estheticians on staff?

In conclusion:

Picking the proper waxing studio isn't just about getting smooth skin – it's also about your safety and well-being. Trusting an unprofessional studio can put you at risk of infections, burns, and even skin damage. That's why choosing a reputable studio is crucial.

At BARE, we go the extra mile to ensure your and your skin's safety before, during, and after treatment. No question is silly, and we love to answer all of them! If you choose to wax with us, you can rest assured that you're in safe hands.
